Your Waste

We throw out more rubbish than anyone else in London. In fact, on average, every household in Barking and Dagenham creates one tonne of rubbish a year – that’s 40% more than some neighbouring boroughs.

Grey bins are for waste that is not collected in the brown or green bins, such as:

  • Food scraps
  • Nappies
  • Cling film and polystyrene
  • Meat trays
  • Yoghurt pots and plastic food wrapping
  • Crisp packets and sweet wrappers
  • Bottle lids
  • Glass bottles
FlatBins

Blue eurobins are for household waste that can be recycled, including:

  • Paper
  • Thin card
  • Plastic bottles (please rinse)
  • Tins and cans (please rinse)
  • Catalogues, telephone directories (including Yellow Pages)
  • Glass

However, flats and apartments often have two blue eurobins – one is for paper and cardboard, and the other mixed recyclables. Make sure you check the signage before adding your waste.

Silver bin cut out

Silver eurobins are for domestic waste that cannot be recycled, including:

  • Food scraps
  • Nappies
  • Cling film and polystyrene
  • Meat trays
  • Yoghurt pots and plastic food wrappers
  • Bottle lids
  • Glass bottles

We need to work together to reduce the waste our borough creates.

What can you do?
