Did you know, as part of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2014, you can be fined for having an untidy garden?
In a bid to help make Barking and Dagenham cleaner and greener, our enforcement team is cracking down on eyesore gardens – and one Chadwell Heath man has been ordered to pay over £900 in fines and costs for failing to clean up his eyesore garden.
Enforcement officers initially issued a seven-day warning letter to the resident after they noticed his garden was filled with rubbish, including several black bags of waste, blue tarpaulins, a trolley and plastic containers, during a routine patrol last summer. He was then issued a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 but he failed to pay the penalty or clear the garden so was summonsed to court for breach of a community protection notice in accordance with section 43 of the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2014. The resident has since been fined £500 and ordered to pay £393 in costs plus a £50 victims surcharge.
